A hot desk is a seat you don't own: you take any free desk in a coworking space's shared area and pay by the hour, the day or the month, without a fixed spot or a lease.

How hot desking works

You arrive, check in at the front desk or with an app, and sit wherever there's room. At the end of the day you take your things with you, because the next person may use the same desk tomorrow. Most spaces in the Philippines sell three versions of the same seat:

  • Hourly – popular with students and freelancers who need two or three focused hours. Published rates run from ₱25 to ₱200 an hour.
  • Day pass – a full working day, often 8 am to 6 pm, sometimes longer or overnight: ₱250–₱1,000.
  • Monthly hot desk or "flexi" membership – unlimited days in the shared area for a flat fee: ₱3,500–₱10,995 a month.

What a hot desk usually includes

The seat itself is only part of what you pay for. In the 774 spaces we list, these are the extras their websites mention most often:

  • Wi-Fi or fiber internet (104 spaces mention it) – ask for a real speed test, not the plan's headline number
  • Coffee, water or a pantry (98 spaces)
  • Aircon and power outlets at each seat
  • Backup power during brownouts (36 spaces mention a generator or UPS)
  • A few pages of printing, and lockers for an extra fee in some places

What's rarely included: meeting-room time (usually billed per hour), a mailing address and a guaranteed seat at peak hours.

Is a hot desk a good idea for you?

Good fit

  • You work outside the home two or three days a week
  • You travel between cities or islands
  • You mostly need a quiet table, good internet and power
  • You're testing a space before committing to a month

Think twice

  • You take calls all day (look for phone booths or a dedicated desk)
  • You use two monitors or heavy equipment
  • You need the same seat every morning
  • You keep documents you can't carry home

How to pay less for a hot desk

  1. Count your days. From about 12 days a month, a median monthly hot desk (₱5,250) costs less than paying day passes (₱425 each).
  2. Ask for flexi passes: several spaces sell 3-, 7-, 15- or 30-day passes you can use within a few weeks.
  3. Students should ask for a student rate – published ones start at ₱39 an hour.
  4. Go off-peak: a few spaces discount mornings, nights or weekends.
